“Vania listens. A lot of the kids at my program have never met or seen their ed consultant. I’ve seen her three times. I like her a lot because I think she gets what my problems are and she doesn’t judge me.”

Our Services
At V. Matheus Consulting, we offer specialized services to help families and young people navigate emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. We create personalized plans that address immediate needs while supporting long-term progress. Our approach combines compassion, expertise, and strategic planning, ensuring each family receives the right guidance and support. Below are the core services we provide to help families find the best solutions and make informed decisions for the future.
-
Understanding Short-Term Residential Treatment
Short-term residential treatment offers stabilization for young people in acute emotional or psychiatric crises. These programs provide 24/7 supervision, therapeutic containment, and intensive clinical care.
Services typically include:
Psychiatric assessment and medication management
Individual, group, and family therapy
Structured, emotionally safe environments
Accredited academics to maintain educational continuity
These programs serve as critical intervention points—often laying the foundation for longer-term care or clearer clinical direction.
-
For families navigating challenging behavior, emotional dysregulation, or poor decision-making in a teen or young adult—not aggressive or suicidal, but clearly veering off track—home plans offer a grounded, proactive alternative to out-of-home placement. At V. Matheus Consulting, we work with parents to design a clear, structured plan that reflects who their child is, where they’re struggling, and where the family hopes to go. This process includes thoughtful interviews, sometimes with the young person when appropriate, to understand their perspective and assess their willingness to engage. When a young person isn’t ready or able to participate, we create a respectful, non-coercive “Plan B,” identifying the family’s limits and possible next steps—not as a threat, but as a container for care.
While the plan is being implemented, we coach parents directly, teaching simple, effective tools to rebuild connection, strengthen boundaries, and shift stuck dynamics. With years of experience in the field, we also help parents discern when the situation may require deeper intervention. In many cases, though, families begin to heal at home with renewed vision, intentional support, and the right framework for change.
-
Supporting Sustained Therapeutic Care
For students requiring ongoing therapeutic support, long-term residential care combines robust clinical services with structured academics in a relational, contained environment.Ideal for young people who:
Have not thrived in traditional academic or outpatient environments
Need consistent support with emotional regulation, impulsivity, maladaptive coping, and skill-building
Require extended time away from home to create lasting change
Programs typically offer:
Individualized academics and college-prep pathways
Experiential and relational therapies
Weekly therapy and integrated family work
Clinical support for trauma, identity, learning differences, and mood challenges
Length of stay: Typically 7-14 months, with a focus on whole-person healing and long-term reintegration success.
-
Planning for a Smooth Transition
Returning home or stepping down from a therapeutic setting requires careful planning to ensure lasting change. This phase is critical to ensure new patterns take hold—and old ones don’t return. We help you with:
Designing a personalized transition plan
Identifying next-step academic or therapeutic placements
Rebuilding community and support systems
We support families in creating the structure and resources needed to maintain progress and move forward with confidence.
-
Empowering Families for Long-Term Success
When immediate placement isn’t necessary—or to ensure continued success after treatment—our parent coaching empowers families to shift from reactivity to leadership.
We help you:
Create rules, structure, and rhythms that promote stability at home
Explore family dynamics and shift unhelpful patterns
Work through parenting fears, PTSD, and burnout
Reconnect to your values and long-term family vision
Identify services and supports that meet your teen or young adult where they are
-
Breaking the Cycle with Immersive Experiences
When a young person is emotionally stuck, short-term, immersive experiences can spark change. These interventions are designed to challenge, disrupt, and awaken.
Benefits include:
Interrupting entrenched behavioral patterns like avoidance and dependency
Reigniting motivation, accountability, and insight
Cultivating self-awareness through feedback and novelty
Informing next steps through natural assessment
Examples include adventure-based therapy, rites of passage, and therapeutic service-learning. These experiences can stand alone or precede more intensive interventions.
-
Navigating Crisis with Compassionate Intervention
When a young person is in escalating or chronic crisis, intervention is often the first step toward lasting change. Done effectively, it preserves connection while establishing critical boundaries.
We help you:
Design and execute a loving, strategic intervention
Communicate clearly and without blame
Minimize trauma and emotional fallout
Prioritize your child’s physical and emotional safety
This critical moment can mark the beginning of healing for both the young person and the entire family system.
